Our club (your club) needs members to step up…
We need new members for the Committee so we can continue to plan and carry out the sort of events that make a club appealing to existing and new members. Committee members don’t last forever, we need keen and enthusiastic members to be jostling for position. Have you got any ideas? It’s a great way to be heard!
We need new Club Officers too. From President to Librarian, from Editor to Secretary, from whatever to everything else – these people are just volunteers and often feel like a break after a term or two,
so why not YOU have a go? The AGM is looming, so ask yourself – “What can I do for my club?”
But probably most importantly of all, we need new members. Every day, every one of us is another day older. All of the stuff we care about as a club will be forgotten along with us if we let apathy continue to sit in the room. How about everyone tries to “bring a friend” to meetings a couple of times a year? Less than a fifth of the C Licensed people in New Zealand are members of Antique Arms – why is that???
I’ve talked to the Editor about this (my 16 year old daughter) and asked her what it would take for her generation to become interested. She gave me some very interesting feedback which I’ll be discussing with the Committee at out next meeting.
We certainly don’t need our young people, our members in waiting, thinking we’re just like the media would describe us, so let’s get some along and let them make up their own minds.
So ask yourself again – “What can I do for my club?”
